According to the latest report from DigiTimes, Apple plans to release a new HomePod in 2025, which will feature a 7-inch LCD screen with an A18 chip and support for Apple Intelligence, focusing on smart home features.
This HomePod with a screen is seen as an important layout for Apple in smart homes. According to reports, the device will feature LCD screens provided by Tianma at a relatively low cost of just $10 per screen.
In addition, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed earlier this month that Apple plans to mass-produce a HomePod with a 6- to 7-inch screen in the second half of 2025.
It's worth mentioning that the device will likely run the new home operating system, with a widget-centric dashboard that allows users to customize their home management features. It will also support Home Kit and Apple Intelligence, which can serve as the control hub of the smart home. Besides controlling smart home appliances, the device can connect to a home camera, display surveillance footage in real time, and even support FaceTime video calls.
Judging by the rumors, the new HomePod with a screen is no longer just a speaker, but an all-around smart home assistant. It's unclear if Apple will include the device in the HomePod family or a brand-new name.
In addition, although the report did not mention whether the classic HomePod will be updated, the smaller HomePod mini is expected to usher in an upgrade next year.
